“Wine that makes glad the heart of man…” – Psalm 104:15

Explore Israel’s amazing variety of wineries along with the most meaningful of the Holy Land’s pilgrimage sites.

DAY 1 - Ben Gurion Airport – Tiberias

Where you will be met by a Nazarene Tours representative. Transfer to your hotel in Tiberias for overnight stay.

Wake up to the evocative Galilee landscape, the backdrop of Jesus’ public ministry. Visit Capernaum where Jesus taught and performed miracles and Tabgha, scene of the Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes and the miraculous catch of fish after the Resurrection. See the amazing 2,000-year-old Jesus Boat in its beautiful museum setting. Enjoy the serenity of the Mt of Beatitudes, where Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount. In the afternoon, head for a tour and tasting at the Golan Heights Winery, one of the first wineries to put Israel on the international wine map, whose varieties benefit from the region’s volcanic soil, relative coolness. Time permitting, visit Bethsaida, home of Philip, Peter, and Andrew, where Jesus healed a blind man. Overnight in Galilee

Visit Cana, where our wine theme and sacred sites converge, this being the place where Jesus turned water into wine. Then it’s on to Nazareth, the boyhood home of Jesus. Visit the magnificent Basilica of the Annunciation, marking the site of the annunciation of the Angel Gabriel to Mary, and Mary’s Well. Tour Nazareth Village where life in Jesus’ day is recreated and where you can hear the story of ancient wine production in Galilee at its authentic winepress. Later, travel to the family-owned Dalton Winery, high in the Galilee Mountains, producing new-world fruit-driven wines befitting the environment and climate, to enjoy a tour and tasting. Overnight in Galilee.

Today begins with a stop at Yardenit on the banks of the Jordan River, where pilgrims the world over come for baptism. Continue to Mount Carmel, to the place where Elijah had his contest with the prophets of Ba’al and brought down fire from Heaven. Then, it’s on to the Tishbi Winery in the western Carmel Mountains, now managed by the fourth generation of its founders, where Tishbi’s vineyards take advantage of terroires and climates country-wide to produce its fine blends and varietals. Then, it’s back to Bible times, with a visit to the ancient port of Caesarea, where Peter converted the first Gentiles and Paul was under house arrest before setting sail for Rome. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Today you will spend taking in the sacred highlights of the Jerusalem. Your day begins with the inspiring view of the holy city from the top of the Mount of Olives and a visit to the Garden of Gethsemane. Then, after visiting the Pools of Bethesda and the Church of St. Anne, begin your walk in the footsteps of Jesus on the Via Dolorosa, beginning with the Praetorium and pausing at the Stations of the Cross. Your walk culminates with a visit to the venerable Church of the Holy Sepulchre, marking the site of Calvary and Jesus’ Tomb. Continue through the Jewish Quarter and visit the Western Wall, the most sacred spot in the world to Jews. Overnight in Jerusalem

Visit the Shrine of the Book, to see the Dead Sea Scrolls, the most ancient copies of the Bible ever found, and the famous 1:50 scale model of Jerusalem the way it looked in Jesus’ day. Then it’s on to the Latrun Monastery, and winery, nestled among its olive groves and vineyards, overlooking the Ayalon Valley, where Joshua made the sun stand still. From the ancient biblical tell of Beit Shemesh, view Samson country (home to that biblical judge, who was not allowed to drink wine!). Continue to Kibbutz Tzorah for a wine workshop at its terroire-driven winery in the Judean Hills. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Today you will discover Israel’s famous arid-region wineries, where vineyards have made the desert bloom, as the prophet Isaiah envisioned. After an early start, a fascinating two-hour drive through the Negev will bring you to the boutique winery of Kibbutz Sde Boker. Continue to the magnificent ruins of Avdat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, whose ancient Christian inhabitants specialized in winemaking. Then, it’s on to the Yatir Winery in the northeastern Negev, whose vineyards in the southern Judean Hills Yatir Forest are producing a variety of prize-winning wines. Continue along the fascinating road down to the Dead Sea, the lowest spot on earth, for overnight.

Your last touring day begins with a dip in the Dead Sea near your hotel, and the opportunity for a host of beauty and health treatments that have made the Dead Sea true to its description as the world’s biggest natural outdoor spa. Then, it’s on to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Masada, with a cable-car ride and tour of the famed fortress of Masada, where the Jews made their last stand against the Romans. In the afternoon, stop at the oasis of Ein Gedi to view the place where David hid from King Saul, and at Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Overnight in Jerusalem.

DAY 9: Transfer from Jerusalem to Ben Gurion Airport.

Transfer from your hotel to Ben Gurion Airport for departure. A Nazarene Tours representative will assist you through the formalities.
